Palmerston North Girls' High School

Palmerston North Girls’ High School in New Zealand has been working with Turnitin since the beginning of 2016.

Classical Studies Teacher Nikki Weston explains that the high school had identified incidents of plagiarism by students in the past. Turnitin is helping the school overcome this challenge and is now used across all subjects in Year 11, 12 and 13. She explains: “A lot of our students are using information from scholars and people who have spent their lives studying. We don’t want their life’s work to be plagiarised.”

Students are now encouraged to re-submit papers multiple times before their final submission, so that they can see where they can improve and where they need support. So far there has been a positive reaction to using Turnitin. Weston said: “They enjoy the opportunity to actually better themselves. It means instead of failing them because they’ve plagiarised, they can actually help themselves.”
