Chartered Banker Institute

Overhauling Turnitin Usage to Focus on Quality in Banking Assessment

The Chartered Banker Institute is the oldest professional body for bankers in the world, with students forming a large proportion of its 30,000 global membership. The Institute’s Quality & Standards and Learning & Assessment teams constantly strive to ‘re-professionalise’ banking and take academic integrity seriously in order to drive industry trust.

Having recently overhauled the way they work with Turnitin Feedback Studio, the Institute has successfully moved away from uploading on behalf of its students, and instead, supports students as they upload their assignments directly to Turnitin.

“We needed to be able to offer a quicker overall turnaround time and a better experience for our students, whilst at the same time ensuring our stringent quality requirements were met.”

Thanks to the efforts of the Institute’s Turnitin project team, they have saved 300 hours of marking time in 2018, based on 1,203 submissions. Saving this much time has offered greater efficiencies: assignment results are released to students promptly whilst maintaining rigorous quality standards.

“Many of our students have not been involved in academia for some time, and so we are keen to support them and educate them.”

Students of the Chartered Banker Institute are now able to review their similarity score at draft submission stage allowing them to understand where they need to improve their referencing and not fall foul of academic standards and potential disciplinaries.
