Each February, in celebration of Black History Month, Turnitin honors the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans who have helped shape the United States. This year, the company celebrated the month-long holiday in the US in a variety of ways, including highlighting one of Turnitin’s four Employee Resource Groups, BlackSource, internally and on the company’s social media channels.
The group has over 70 active members and allies in more than 35 cities around the globe. Its mission is to:
- Address and advance the company's commitment to accelerate representation
- Improve the professional development of employees of Black and African descent
- Create a sense of belonging among Black and African descent employees through regular membership meetings, company-wide educational activities and, when possible, in-person events
To further strengthen their impact and support the next generation of Black professionals, BlackSource sponsored Turnitin's first ever scholarship program for Black students in the US pursuing a STEM degree.
Out of nearly 20 incredible applicants, two deserving students were selected for the program. Wisdom Ariagbogo, a University of Arkansas freshman studying computer science and Kuzivakwashe Mavera, a Swarthmore College undergraduate, studying economics and computer science, were each awarded $3,000.
