Cultivating a Culture of Honesty on Campus to Prepare Students for a Bright Future
Paolo Cuya Chamilco strives to ingrain the values of academic integrity into the fabric of his student’s lives. As the Head of the Information Center at Universidad César Vallejo, Peru, and the administrator of the Turnitin account for the University, he has been able to experience first-hand how Turnitin’s technology has encouraged honesty and originality throughout his institution.

“We want to see academic integrity on their research papers when we upload them to Turnitin but we also want to see it on their lives… We are helping them develop an attitude that will shape their professional life when they get a job. They’ll recognize academic integrity is important.”

By reinforcing these values, Paolo hopes that he can send his students into their futures with strong morals and an understanding of the big picture benefits of academic integrity. He believes that by continuing to cultivate a culture of honesty, he can set his students up for success throughout their lives.

“This software has helped us to alert teachers about the most common mistakes and has provided them with a tool to change that, to change the students... That’s why this software is priceless. It helps you build values.”

Paolo strives to leave his mark on the academic world by educating, not only his students but the greater community at a higher level about the importance of academic integrity. He has found that this process has been extremely rewarding for him, and he is content knowing that his efforts have created more awareness in the minds of individuals throughout Universidad César Vallejo.
