Bridging the paper and digital worlds
As a teacher working in a low-income area, I am always on the lookout for solutions that bridge the paper and digital worlds. As we have learnt during the pandemic, good access to IT—both at school and at home—is far from the reality we teach in, but Gradescope allows me to scan paper-based tests to accommodate all students' circumstances.
Charting knowledge gaps
My students love Gradescope’s bubble sheet assessments, which have enabled us to quickly chart any knowledge gaps that have emerged during school closures. Gradescope gives me a rich data source to analyse and influence my future planning.
A range of question types
Gradescope is doing a fantastic job of allowing me to quickly mark a range of different question types, from multiple choice to longer answer questions. I would encourage classroom practitioners to try the platform to see how it can reduce marking burdens as well as how easy it is to use.
Automatic marking during the pandemic
Although Gradescope supports all teachers with a free Basic version, I have been upgraded to Gradescope Complete for the 20/21 academic year. This upgrade allows for automated marking—an enormous utility during the current situation in terms of hygiene, wellbeing and rapid assessment.
Teachers can create a free account, and the Gradescope team offers live fortnightly workshops and online guidance to help teachers get set up quickly – even midway through the term.
