| If this is your first visit to Turnitin, you might be wondering what it exactly is we do. Here are the answers to some common questions: |
| What is Turnitin? |
| Turnitin is an online resource for educators and students concerned with developing quality writing and research skills. We do this by: |
|
| providing a reliable, efficient, and powerful deterrent to digital plagiarism | |
| hosting an online interface for convenient and innovative peer-to-peer review | |
| allowing for online grading with full contextual markup, use of rubrics, and quickmarks | |
| offering a gradebook with multiple scaling and grading options, comments, and assignment types | |
| providing instructors the ability to aggregate student works into digital portfolios | |
| How does your service stop plagiarism? |
| We prevent and detect plagiarism by comparing submitted papers to billions of pages of content located on the internet and our proprietary databases. The results of our comparisons are compiled, one for each paper submitted, in custom "Originality Reports." These reports are sent to participating educators, who access the results by logging into their Turnitin account(s). To take a look at an Originality Report, click on the sample report to the right. | What is Peer Review? |
| Peer Review is a patent-pending online interface that allows for easy, anonymous, and customized peer-to-peer evaluation of student papers. Instructors create "peer review assignments" -- collections of topic and rubric questions used to evaluate a given paper or assignment -- that serve as frameworks for students to evaluate each other's work. Peer review assignments can then be distributed according to instructor-specified criteria. | ||
| What is Grademark™? |
| This groundbreaking online tool frees instructors from pen-and-paper grading and gives them the ability to mark student work in a unique, paperless environment. One of the basic problems with placing a grade and selected comments on a physical paper is that there is no subsequent way of tracking the educational progress of student, class, department, or institution. With GradeMark, institutions can now track the exact problems their students are having and whether those problems are improving over time; students can have structured access to grades, contextual comments, and educational rubrics for all work they have ever submitted to Turnitin. All of this is done using a browser. |
