Help Center: Exclude Bibliographic or Quoted Material Assignment Settings

This feature allows instructors to select whether to include or exclude the bibliographic or quoted material from the Similarity Index for all papers submitted to an assignment at the assignment level. The default for this assignment setting is to include the bibliographic and quoted material. Instructors still retain the ability to exclude or include bibliographic or quoted material within an Originality Report.

Additional Information

  • We recommend that instructors view Originality Reports for every submission within the assignment inbox. This will help alleviate issues that may arise if large sections of a paper's text appear within quotation marks or within block indentation.
  • Instructors will receive a notification within the Originality Report any time the quoted or bibliographic text in a student's paper consists of more than 30% of the total amount of text within the paper.
  • For information about how to include or exclude the bibliography and quoted material within an Originality Report please view our articles on excluding quoted material or excluding bibliography.
