Help Center: What is a Reflection Assignment?

The relection assignment is an opportunity for a student to write about what they learned from the writing process as well as offer feedback on the assignment they worked on. This is most useful in classes that emphasize and teach the writing process. The reflection assignment is an assignment that can be given a grade score (applies only to GradeBook user) and is an assignment that is stacked under the original assignment.

To create a Reflection Assignment:

1. Click the New Assignment button on your class homepage

2. On the assignment page, select Reflection Assignmen by clicking in the radio button next to "Reflection Assignment"

3. Select the paper assignment that the reflection assignment will be associated with

4. Enter the assignment title (optional) and point value (applies only to gradebook users)

5. Enter the assignment start and due dates

The submit button

6. Click submit to add the reflection assignment to your class homepage

The reflection assignment will stack beneath the assignment it is based on. Your students can submit their reflections in the same way they submit papers.

Additional Information

  • Please note that Originality Reports are not created for reflection assignments. If you would like to have an Originality Report for reflection submissions, create a normal paper assignment and have your students submit their reflection papers there.
  • Instructors using the Gradebook module must also set a point value for assignments
  • Instructors using Gradebook must also set a post date and time for the assignment. The post date is the date upon which all marks and grades for every paper turned into the assignment will become available for the paper's author (the student) to view.
