Help Center: Adding Comments to a paper in PeerMark

While reviewing a paper instructors or students may use the commenting tools in PeerMark to comment directly on the paper.

How to add comments to a paper in PeerMark

The class name link on the student homepage

1. Click on the class name

2. Click on the Show details link to the right of the PeerMark assignment

3. Click on the "Start Review" button

4. Click on the Tools link on the PeerMark tool bar to open up the Tools palette

5. If not already selected click on the highlighter commenting tool

6. Click on the paper where you would like to make your comment. A comment icon will appear and a comment bubble will open

7. Type your comment into the text box

8. With the comment bubble still open you may highlight a passage from the paper by clicking on the text and dragging the cursor across the area you are referring to

9. You may select a color by clicking on the arrow drop down menu next to the highlighter tool. Select the color you would like to use (includes strikethrough and underline options)

10. Click on the Save button to save your comment

The inline commenting tool allows users to comment directly on the paper instead of in a comment box.

How to add inline comments to a paper

The Tools link

1. Click on the Tools link on the PeerMark tool bar to open up the Tools palette

3. You may select a color by clicking on the arrow drop down menu next to the inline comment tool

4. Click on the paper where you would like the comment to begin. The inline comment will show up as a light gray highlight over which typing may be done. When finished, click elsewhere on the paper or select the highlighter tool from the Tools palette. The inline comment will appear as typing directly over the paper

An inline comment can be deleted by moving the cursor over the comment and then clicking on the gray trash can icon that appears to the left of the comment. Deleted comments cannot be recovered.

The inline comment can be moved by clicking and dragging the comment to a new location on the page. Releasing the mouse will affix the inline comment to the page in the new location.

How to add a composition mark to a paper

The Tools link

1. Click on the Tools link on the PeerMark tool bar to open up the Tools palette

2. To add an composition mark to a paper click on the mark you want to add in the tools palette and drag the mark to the desired location on the paper

3. After placing the mark on the paper, place the cursor over the mark to read its description

Note: Composition mark symbols with yellow backgrounds on the palette are dynamic. These marks require further modification when added to a paper.

To move a composition mark click on the mark and drag it to the new position on the paper and release the click. To delete a mark place the cursor over the mark, the trash icon will appear click on the trash icon to delete the mark.

Additional Information

  • Reviews can be saved and closed for later completion by clicking the Save link at the top right of the PeerMark screen.
