Help Center: Installing the Turnitin Vista Plugin

Once the Turnitin PowerLink is downloaded in ZIP format, unzip the file and install the JAR files in the Blackboard Vista server.

Copying the JAR Files to the server

A course name

1. Log into the Blackboard Vista server

2. Copy all of the JAR files to the following directory:
<Domainname>/deployablecomponents/TurnitinAuthenticationModule/

3. Restart the server

Once the JAR files have been installed, the server administrator needs to configure the module.

Configuring the TurnitinAuthenticationModule

1. Log in as the Server Administrator

2. From the Blackboard Learning System Server, click on the Utilities icon

3. Click on the Settings link

4. Click on the Deployable Components link underneath the System Integration column

5. Make sure the setting “Allow Deployable Components” option is set to true

6. Click on the Save Values button

7. Click the TurnitinAuthenticationModule link

8. Configure the module using the following settings:

  • Order: 1
  • Web Services URL: <the public URL for the account’s Vista server’s web service> (ends with “/axis”)
  • Shared Secret Key: the shared secret key
  • Account ID: <the primary Turnitin account ID>
  • Sub-account ID: <the Turnitin sub-account ID> (optional)
  • Turnitin Assignment ID: <leave blank>
  • Turnitin Assignment Title: <leave blank>
  • Instructor ID: <leave blank>
  • Enabled: true

7. Once the module has been configured click on the Save Values button

Creating the Turnitin Assignment Proxy Tool

1. Log in as the system server administrator and click on the PowerLink Proxy tab

3. Select the TurnitinAuthenticationModule from the "Select Authentication Module" pulldown menu and then click on next

4. Enter "Turnitin Assignment" into the "Proxy Tool Name" field. Enter "2.0" in the "Version" field. Enter "Turnitin assignment Proxy Tool" into the "Proxy Tool Description" field

5. Enter the follwing values into their respective fields:

  • Assisted Config Button Name: Create Turnitin Assignment (suggested)
  • Web Services URL: <the public URL for the account’s Vista server’s web service> (ends with “/axis”)
  • Shared Secret Key: the shared secret key
  • Account ID: <the Turnitin account ID>
  • Sub-account ID: <the Turnitin sub-account ID> (optional)
  • Turnitin Assignment ID: <leave blank>
  • Turnitin Assignment Title: <leave blank>
  • Instructor ID: <leave blank>

6. Once the module has been configured click on the Save Values button

Next, enable the Turnitin Assignment.

2. Click the check box next to “Unlock this Setting”

4. Click Turnitin Assignment in the Tools column

5. Select true for the Enable Tool value
