Joining an Account

Instructors must join an account before they can create classes and begin to use Turnitin. In order to join an account the instructor must have the account id and join password which can only be distributed by the institution's Turnitin account administrator. Instructors can join to multiple accounts from the same user profile.

How to create a new user profile and join an account

1. Click the New Users link in the upper right corner of the Turnitin homepage new users link on the Turnitin homepage
2. Select instructor from the user type selection pull down menu and click next Select your user type
3. Enter your account id and join password in the appropriate fields and click next account id and enrollment password
4. Enter the e-mail address you would like associated with your Turnitin account (this will be your user name) and click next email address for profile
5. Enter (and re-enter) the password you would like to use as your Turnitin login password and click next. create and confirm your password
6. Select a secret question using the secret question pull down menu, enter an answer and click next. secret question and answer
7. Enter your first and last name in the appropriate fields and click next user name fields
8. Review the Turnitin user agreement and click to agree and finalize user profile creation click to user agreement
9. Click to either finish your user profile creation and sign in or create a class using the class creation wizard sign in or create a class

Instructors with pre-existing user profiles can use the join account tab to join additional accounts

How to join an account from an existing user profile

1. Click the join account tab on your instructor homepage join account tab
2. Enter the account id and join password account id and join password
3. Click submit to join the account submit to join

Additional information and related links

  • All passwords in Turnitin are case sensitive

  • Turnitin user login passwords must be between 6-12 character in length and contain both letters and numbers

  • You will need to remember your secret question and answer if you forget your login password in the future. Please select the question with this in mind and answer the question with the correct response.

  • If you choose to join multiple accounts, each account will appear on your instructor homepage. Please create classes in the appropriately labeled account.
