Turnitin earns top honors twice in one month by Tech & Learning and GSV 150

OAKLAND, Calif. - March 1, 2024

OAKLAND, Calif. - March 1, 2024 - This month, Turnitin was awarded two independent wins for its innovative commitment to academic integrity, Tech & Learning Magazine’s Best of 2023 and GSV 150. As an award winner, Turnitin and its AI writing detection feature were recognized for supporting educators, learning and academic integrity through innovative products.

On Feb. 2, Turnitin’s AI writing detection feature was named as one of the Best of 2023 Higher Education winners by Tech & Learning Magazine. The edtech company’s feature is specialized for academic writing, and distinguishes between AI and human-written content, while supporting the responsible use of AI. The detection feature, which has processed over 159 million submissions since launching in April 2023, was recognized for helping to support education and learning.

Tech & Learning Best of 2023 noted that its judges wrote of Turnitin's AI writing detection feature, “This is a very pioneering area and many AI detectors are producing many false positives. Turnitin is working hard to make sure that when they get it wrong (not if), then it will be an ‘underprediction’ more often than not. I applaud Turnitin's honesty and commitment to integrity when it comes to AI biases.”

Additionally, GSV named Turnitin to its annual list of the most transformational growth companies in digital learning and workforce skills that are shaping the future of education. Selected from more than 2,000 companies globally, Turnitin was recognized for being at the “forefront of innovation and constantly evolving to drive return on education (RoE) for individuals, businesses and society.”

"More than ever, we see the need for AI solutions that support educators and institutions to advance learning without sacrificing academic integrity. Turnitin is constantly evolving to meet the needs of our education community,” said Annie Chechitelli, Chief Product Officer, Turnitin. “We are honored to receive these awards because it recognizes our commitment to our customers.”
