5th International Plagiarism Conference - Recap
The 5th International Plagiarism Conference started last Tuesday (July 17, 2012) with a welcome address from Turnitin's Vice President of International, Will Murray, and an opening address from Craig Mahoney, chief executive of the Higher Education Academy. The kickoff continued with a morning keynote from Dr. Tracey Bretag of University of South Australia, discussing policy, practice, and the student perspective. An afternoon keynote from Dr. Virginia Barbour from the Committee on Publication Ethics spoke about plagiarism from an editor's perspective. During the day there were also an additional 22 available sessions and workshops.

Day two of The 5th International Plagiarism Conference started with a keynote presentation from Dr. Tara Brabazon from University of Bolton who talked about the systemic problem of plagiarism in education and alternative ways of thinking about teaching, learning, writing, and referencing. Immediately following was a second keynote by filmmaker Kirby Ferguson who previewed and spoke about his film "Everything is a Remix." The afternoon keynote presentation was a virtual presentation by Harvard University's Jonathan Zittrain who spoke about Writing in an Internet Environment. Between all that, they managed to squeeze in 19 more sessions and workshops on a variety of plagiarism-related topics. Dr. Cath Ellis brought things to a close with a summary of the event and takeaways.
