Versions & Release Notes
Vista 3 Tii Powerlink 2.0.3
In CE/Vista, when logged in as a Section Instructor/Designer, there is a tab that is called "Student View" that is supposed to allow the Section Instructor/Designer to see the site as a student might see it. However, with Turnitin Assignments in that view, it will not show the proper student view, but will still show access to the Turnitin Assignment as an instructor. This is a known issue and instructors/administrators should not be concerned that students are actually seeing that view and able to see not only their own submissions but everyone else's submissions to the assignment, when in fact, the students do have the right student view of the Turnitin Assignment and can only see their own submission.
Vista 4, 4.2.3, 8, CE6, 8 Tii Powerlink 2.1.5
In CE/Vista, when logged in as a Section Instructor/Designer, there is a tab that is called "Student View" that is supposed to allow the Section Instructor/Designer to see the site as a student might see it. However, with Turnitin Assignments in that view, it may not show the proper student view, but will still show access to the Turnitin Assignment as an instructor. This is issue has been resolved in version 2.1.0 of the Powerlink. If this is happening, run a Roster Sync, then log out of Blackboard CE/Vista and log back in. We've found that after doing that once, Section Instructors/Designers will correctly see what students see: an inbox for their own submission only.

FAQs
If the answer to your Blackboard CE/Vista question is not found here or if you have a more technical question, please view the manuals above or contact the helpdesk.
Why do I have to enter the title for the Turnitin Assignment twice when creating it?
Due to the constraints of the Blackboard CE/Vista system, it requires this two-step process where you must enter the title of the Turnitin Assignment on one screen, but it is not possible to retain that title and use it on the next screen. Please note that for best practices, the title entered on both screens should be exactly the same.
Why am I getting an error when trying to modify an existing Turnitin Assignment or grade a submission in an existing Turnitin Assignment?
One thing to check here is if there is a corresponding Gradebook column for this Turnitin Assignment, and that Gradebook column needs to have the same title as the Turnitin Assignment. If the Gradebook column is missing or the title is different (e.g., abbreviated, etc.) this will cause the errors to occur.
Can I copy Turnitin Assignments in Blackboard CE/Vista?
No.
As a Section Instructor/Designer, when I click on the 'Student View' tab, it doesn't look like I'm getting the correct student view. Why is this happening?
When clicking on a Turnitin Assignment from the "Student View" tab, the Turnitin Assignment inbox may show access as an instructor. This issue has been resolved in version 2.1.0 of the Powerlink. Please download and follow the instructions to upload this new version. If this problem still occurs, run a Roster Sync, then log out of Blackboard CE/Vista and log back in. We've found that after doing that once, Section Instructors/Designers will correctly see what students see: an inbox for their own submission only.
When I remove a Turnitin Assignment, it removes it from the homepage, but it does not remove it from the inventory of Turnitin Assignments. How can I fully remove it?
As far as I know, this is not possible within Blackboard CE/Vista.
How can I upgrade the Powerlink in Blackboard CE/Vista?
One way to upgrade the Powerlink is to uninstall / remove completely the old Powerlink and to follow the installation instructions for the new Powerlink. However, doing this will remove access to any of the Turnitin Assignments created with the previous version of the Powerlink.
In order to upgrade the Powerlink without losing access to the previous Turnitin Assignments, do not delete the Turnitin Assignment Proxy Tool, but just replace the TurnitinAuthenticationModule.jar file under deployablecomponents/TurnitinAuthenticationModule and restart the server. Note: you may have to log in to your Blackboard CE/Vista instance as the administrator to re-enable or re-activate the Turnitin Assignment Proxy Tool.
When I enroll in a course as an instructor, get removed from the course, and get added again as a student, I can still view everything as an instructor. Is there a solution to this problem?
We've investigated this error, and we updated the query to the Blackboard CE/Vista database to ignore users that have been flagged as deleted. Please upgrade to the latest version of the Turnitin Powerlink.
Why am I getting a Null Pointer Exception even when I have filled out all of the fields for the configuration of the Powerlink properly?
This error occurs when some of the settings in the configuration of the Powerlink are locked. The following setting should be left unlocked: Web Services URL, Shared Secret Key, Account ID, Sub-account ID, Turnitin Assignment ID, Turnitin Assignment Title, Instructor ID, Name Substitute, Privacy Conscious Integration, Allow Web Services.
What happens if we turn off the setting for a Privacy Conscious Integration mid-stream (i.e., after having created assignments, having students submit papers, and/or having graded some)?
Each Turnitin Assignment created using the Privacy Conscious Integration will continue to function using privacy information because it is a permanent setting associated with an instance of the Turnitin Assignment Proxy Tool. Any assignments created after this setting is turned off will behave as a normal Turnitin Assignment.
What happens if we turn off the setting for allowing web service calls?
The practical consequences of web service calls no longer working are that roster sync will not be available and grades will not be sent into the Blackboard CE/Vista gradebook. Assignment creation and modifcation will still work, however.
When using a Privacy Conscious Integration, will students receive receipts for paper submissions in their Blackboard CE/Vista inbox?
No. The changes applied to the user data sent over to Turnitin mean that we are no longer able to send receipts to paper submissions.
