Turnitin Approaches 20 Million Graded Papers in GradeMark
Leader in online grading will celebrate milestone with prizes for winning instructor and charity
OAKLAND, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2012) -- Turnitin, the leader in originality checking and online grading, today announced that it is rapidly approaching 20 million graded papers in its award- winning GradeMark tool. To celebrate this historic milestone, Turnitin will award the instructor that grades the 20 millionth paper with a $2,000 cash prize, and donate an additional $2,000 to a non-profit of the winner’s choice.
“For the last three years, we’ve seen the number of papers being graded online with GradeMark nearly double each year,” said Turnitin’s CEO Chris Caren. “The 20 million mark is a tipping point after which we'll see most student papers being evaluated with GradeMark.”
According to a study by Turnitin of 350 users, GradeMark’s drag-and-drop QuickMark comments, combined with voice comments and interactive rubrics, reduces instructors’ grading time, improves their feedback and increases student engagement compared to traditional methods of grading. Overall, instructors reported that GradeMark led to:
- 31 percent decrease in grading time
- 52 percent increase in quality of feedback
- 46 percent increase in student engagement
