Products and Features

Turnitin is the global leader for preventing plagiarism and delivering comprehensive feedback on students' written work. Turnitin consists of three integrated tools in a single online service:

  • OriginalityCheck®
  • PeerMark®
  • GradeMark®

Turnitin Suite

Watch this overview demonstration of the Turnitin suite to get a baseline understanding of what Turnitin is and how it works. When you're ready, dive a little deeper into each product individually.

OriginalityCheck

OriginalityCheck allows educators to check students' work for improper citation or potential plagiarism by comparing it against Turnitin's expansive content databases. Every Originality Report provides instructors with the opportunity to teach their students proper citation methods as well as to safeguard their institution's academic integrity.

PeerMark

PeerMark gives instructors the ability to create peer review assignments that students use to evaluate and learn from one another's work. Peer reviews can be assigned as online homework rather than taking precious class time. These assignments provide a unique and valuable framework for students to develop critical thinking and writing skills.

GradeMark

GradeMark is a an innovative paperless grading tool that allows instructors to leaave the days of red ink and stacks of papers behind. GradeMark's drag-and-drop commenting and one-click rubrics are a time-saving alternative to traditional pen-and-paper grading, making it easy for instructors to give students the valuable, time-sensitive feedback that's so essential in building quality writing skills.

Adding Instructors by List Upload

This is the fastest way to get instructors activated in Turnitin:

  1. Prepare a list of instructors for upload. There are three ways to do this:
    • Create a three coumn spreadsheet with First Name, Last Name, and Email Address in separate columns with one instructor per row. Save this file as a Microsoft Excel file (.xls or .xlsx).
    • Create a Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Plain Text (.txt) file with First Name, Last Name, and Email Address with commas and no spaces between each, one instructor per line (for example, John,Doe,jdoe@example.com).
  2. Click the instructor icon to the right of the account name.
  3. Click the upload list button at the top of the instructor list.
  4. Click browse to find the instructor list file on your computer.
  5. Find the file on your computer and click open.
  6. Click submit to upload the list.
  7. Review the list of instructors and click yes, submit to finalize the list submission.

Turnitin will not create duplicate instructor profiles with the same email address. If an instructor already has a Turnitin profile (with the same email address) with another institution, they will simply be joined to your institution's account—users can belong to multiple institutional accounts.

Adding an Individual Instructor

To add an instructor individually:

  1. Click the instructor icon to the right of the account name.
  2. Click the add instructor button at the top of the instructor list.
  3. Enter the instructor's name and e-mail address in the appropriate fields.
  4. Click submit to finalize the addition.

Having Instructors Join an Account

For instructors to join an account they will need the Account ID automatically assigned to the account and the join password that was assigned when the account was created. This information can be viewed by clicking on the stats icon on the Turnitin administrator homepage.

Account ID and Join Password information should only be distributed directly to instructors authorized to join the account.

Do not post this information to a public webpage or internet site. This could allow unauthorized persons to use this account after running a web search and finding this information posted.
