Peter Frengel has been leveraging the online portfolio to provide customized instruction, promote student reflection of their writing, and create efficient in-class workshops where students can quickly pull up their comments. Students feel more accountable for their own performance, and feel they have a more active role in growth: “I’ve seen in seven months remarkable growth in my students in terms of their understanding of what their weaknesses are and what their strengths are.”

Prengel uses his library of drag-and-drop comments to address the problems he sees most frequently: grammatical errors, idea development, and organization. He also uses Feedback Studio as a system of record to see patterns in student work and visualize progress over time. “Over time, I am able to customize and tailor each student’s writing instruction to their specific needs.
