Global association will facilitate an international conversation about academic integrity in a changing educational environment

Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom (July 17, 2012) -- Academics from three continents announced today a global alliance to promote research and knowledge-sharing about academic integrity at the 5th International Plagiarism Conference in Newcastle Upon Tyne, U.K.

The International Association of Academic Integrity Conferences (IAAIC) will facilitate an international dialogue on academic integrity that will help foster research and idea exchange as institutions worldwide navigate the rapidly changing academic integrity landscape that has resulted from the greater emphasis on the Internet and social media in education.

Member conferences of the IAAIC include:

  • International Plagiarism Conference, hosted by PlagiarismAdvice.org (U.K.);
  • The International Center for Academic Integrity, Clemson University (U.S.);
  • Asia Pacific Forum on Educational Integrity, Adelaide, South Australia.

“On issues ranging from cheating and plagiarism to pedagogy and best practices, the IAAIC will support ongoing research from both practitioners and institutions in the global education community,” said Gill Rowell, conference chair of the 5th International Plagiarism Conference.

The organising board of the IAAIC includes members from each of the conferences:

  • Tracey Bretag, Asia Pacific Forum on Educational Integrity
  • Dr. Ruth Walker, Asia Pacific Forum on Educational Integrity
  • Dr. Teresa (Teddi) Fishman, The International Center afor Academic Integrity
  • Gill Rowell, International Plagiarism Conference

“With the overlap—not just in our areas of focus—but also in the shared priority of trying to contend with these pressing issues, the alliance of our conferences is a significant development in the area of academic integrity,” said Tracey Bretag, co-chair, Asia Pacific Forum on Educational Integrity.
